Enhance Your Next Brunch with CBD

Treat your guests to these four easy-to-make recipes featuring Papa & Barkley

One of my favorite weekend traditions is indulging in a really great brunch. The typical dining experience begins with a Bloody Mary or mimosa, followed by a long list of delicious breakfast and lunch items that overflow the plate. There are no rules when it comes to what can be served at brunch - eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles, fried chicken, chilaquiles, chocolate desserts - bring it on.

What if there was a way to make brunch even better? Yes, this is possible. Step aside regular brunch because CBD brunch is here and it’s tastier than ever.

If you are new to CBD (also known as cannabidiol), it is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that is derived from hemp and cannabis. Unlike its counterpart, THC, CBD won’t give you the “high” that most people associate with herbal products. Instead, research is showing that CBD acts a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-stress, and relaxation agent, along with a long list of other benefits. Many people treat CBD like a vitamin because it doesn't have mind-altering cognitive effects, which means you can take it in the morning and still have a productive day.

Before incorporating CBD into brunch, it’s important to understand where this cannabinoid comes from. As I mentioned earlier, CBD can be found in both cannabis and hemp. In fact, these two are very similar; however, plants with only .3% THC or less are considered hemp. If the plant has a higher percentage of THC it's deemed cannabis. When it comes to either source, in order to receive the best healing benefits you must find a reliable product. Not all CBD oil is created equal, so be sure to know what practices your CBD supplier is using from soil to bottle.

Papa & Barkley is a brand that you can count on. The company’s products are 100% natural, triple lab tested, and made from only the finest hemp and cannabis plants. Papa & Barkley’s Essentials CBD line offers a hemp-derived Extra-Strength CBD Tincture that contains all-natural and active ingredients. No lab created isolates, distillates, chemicals, CO2, or butane is used. Only safe, reliable, and clean extracts - a perfect CBD addition to a variety of recipes.

The best thing about cooking with a tincture drop is the ease of the application and precise dosing. Papa & Barkley’s Extra-Strength Hemp CBD Tincture is available in both 15 ml and 30 ml bottles. The 15 ml bottle contains 450 mg of hemp-derived CBD (or 30 mg CBD per 1 ml) whereas the 30 ml bottle contains 900 mg of hemp-derived CBD (also 30 mg CBD per 1 ml).

When serving CBD (and other cannabinoids) to others, it’s important to note that each person’s metabolism, body weight, endocannabinoid system, and previous medical conditions differ greatly. While CBD is generally considered safe to consume at high levels and is non-intoxicating, it is best to start on the low side of the dosage range and adjust upward over time until the desired effect is achieved. Always be sure to check in with your guests to see what their dosage preferences are. While there is no standard for dosing, research is showing compelling evidence that higher doses of CBD are necessary for it to be effective. For newbies, I’d recommend starting with a dose ranging between 5 mg - 20 mg of CBD and adjust upward when necessary.

If you are planning to serve multiple courses infused with CBD, the milligrams will add up. Be sure to keep track of the cumulative amount that will be served. It’s also crucial to have non-infused food options available in case someone does not want CBD. If you are setting up a buffet, be sure to label each dish clearly and state how many milligrams of CBD or THC are in each serving. Don’t forget this step!

Now for the fun part, brunch. There are many ways you can incorporate CBD into the dining experience such as mixing it into a drink or infusing it into a sauce or batter. In partnership with Papa & Barkley and Rachel Burkons of Altered Plates, we’ve developed four easy-to-make recipes for your next bruncheon. To keep things consistent, each food recipe contains 15 mg of CBD per serving, but you can adjust up or down as needed.
